This part is the 2nd part of my holiday blogs. The first was about how I spend my holiday here. While the 2nd part will mostly talk about the “good” food that I ate during this holiday.
There are few main restaurants I’d like to discuss here. And please be aware that all restaurants going to be discuss are all chinese food restaurants. The first is Shark Fin Inn Restaurant, secondly is Hu Tong, and the last is FlowerDrum restaurant.
- Shark Fin Inn is 1 of the best group restaurant available in Melbourne, they has been winning lots of awards before. See the website for more detailed menus available in this restaurant.
- Hu Tong restaurant is recommended by Monica Effendy’s friend named Amanda, she said that this restaurant’s food is comparable to FlowerDrum restaurant, with much cheaper price. Too bad I cant find its website, but yeah a few googling with “Hu Tong Melbourne” as its keywords can get you to what people think about this restaurant.
- FlowerDrum is a restaurant that I’ve been dreaming to dine in there since last year. Actually I was planning to eat there, but got no clue where is it. I walked around the Chinatown but still can’t find where is it. However, things went good when Maryanto, Cika, Onee, and me planned to have our dessert at Freddo after having ramen at Aji-sen Ramen. We “accidentaly” found the location of that restaurant, it is located on Market Lane, between Lt.Bourke and Bourke St.
For me, shark fin is quite familiar already, since I like to eat there from last year. I’ve been there like 4 – 5 times before. The food is there is something that you should try if you are a chinese-food lover. 好吃. Hahaha.. The beef is delicious, the taro(?) duck is also great. My friends also told me that the HK style steamed fish and its pork are also delicious. For me, this restaurant could get 19/20. An extremely worth to try restaurant in Melb.
I know the second restaurant, Hu Tong is from Monica’s friend, named Amanda. She said a good food (comparable with FlowerDrum) with much cheaper price. I don’t know what food did she was eaten. But for me, this restaurant is not worth to try, it’s too expensive compared with its foods and services!! I went to Hu Tong with Maryanto, Peter, and Edwin. It’s located in front of FlowerDrum restaurant. We ordered Pan Fried Dumpling, XLB (Xiao Long Bao), Vegetarian Dumpling (for me -_-), Square Pork(i dont know what’s its real name), Chinese Brocolli with Ginger and Steamed Chicken in Szechuan style. I personally don’t eat pork and seafood, hence I don’t eat the Pan Fried Dumpling, XLB, and that Square Pork. Here i’ll just try to tell how the Veggie Dumpling, Chinese Brocolli, and Steamed Chicken taste.
Veggie dumpling maybe isn’t a favourite in this restaurant. The dumpling is not well cooked, there are still some flour in the dumpling. It really make me lose my appetite. The chinese brocolli is quite good, however, I do feel it’s a bit salty. Yah but it’s ok because it means that i can eat 1 brocolli with a cup of rice. hahaha. And for the Steamed Chicken, it’s also quite good, unfortunately there were too many bones there (and i don’t really like to eat food with bones =p). This restaurant for me isn’t worth to try. Too expensive compared to its quality. The service is also poor. Yes, poor. it just like 11/20 for me. If you dont want to cook, and there is no restaurant available , yeah this restaurant can be a choice for you.
The last restaurant that I’d like to review here is FlowerDrum restaurant. This restaurant has won many awards, including a hattrick of 1 of the best 50 restaurants in the world from 2003 – 2005. As I expected, the food here is quite expensive, not a choice if I don’t have a special occassion to dine in here =). There are few funny things happened before we ate there. I and Edwin went to church before we dine in there. We asked a friend about this restaurant. And they said, its food’s taste is similar to Shark Fin restaurant. This resulting me to think, “is it really worthed to try this restaurant if it’s “just” similar to Shark Fin?”. Fortunately my friends (Edwin, Maryanto, Peter) still wants to try to eat at FlowerDrum.
We got Peking Duck, Salt n Pepper Squid as our appetizer. Followed with Lou Han Cai (my fave), and Curry Beef (Peter’s choice). And many desserts as our closing. The food is wow. Deliciousssss… Hahaha.. It costs us 242 dollars, almost 61$ / person. Very expensive. -_-”.
However, this food is so good that you won’t regret to eat here.
Ok, I’m talking about food and I’m hungry now. Will update it when I got mood to write again. C’yaz.
Dennis A.

my sadness still did not improve.
Driving my car on the vast, boundless roads,
I feel that I’m getting out of touch with myself.
The song that I could not finish singing,
Left me so tired that there are rings around my eyes.
It is inevitable to get hurt in the realm of love,
No matter how beautiful the dusk is, the dark night must follow.
I recall that you said, “Goodbye” with a tone of steel,
I had a delusion of being burnt by the sun in the darkening dusk.
The horizon at dusk,
Drew out your line of, “Farewell.”
Love plunges into eternal night.
I still remember the tears falling from your desolated eyes.
In the confusion, there is an illusion of being burnt by the hot tears.
The horizon at dusk,
Severed happiness and joy.
Love has already been destroyed.
